86 patients with distal ulcerative colitis were divided into a research group and a control group according to different treatment methods, with 43 cases in each group. Both groups were given correction of water and electrolyte imbalances and oral immune preparations, as well as liquid or semi-liquid diet. On this basis, the research group was given budesonide mixed solution retention enema treatment, and the control group was given dexamethasone mixed solution retention enema treatment.

Results: The total effective rate of the research group was 93.0%, which was significantly higher than the 76.7% of the control group (P<0.05). The incidence rate of adverse reactions in the study group was 2.3%, which was significantly lower than the 14.0% in the control group (P<0.05). After 4 weeks of treatment, the serum ICAM-1.P-sel levels of the study group were significantly higher than those of the control group (P<0.05).

It is concluded that rectal administration of budesonide has good efficacy in the treatment of distal ulcerative colitis.
