Clofazimine is effective for drug-resistant tuberculosis. If patients are resistant to isoniazid and rifampicin, they can be treated with clofazimine under the guidance of a doctor.

Clofazi cures drug-resistant tuberculosis

Tuberculosis is a common respiratory infectious disease that is prone to recurrence and difficult to treat. Conventional anti-tuberculosis drugs can significantly inhibit the growth of Mycobacterium tuberculosis and improve the lung damage status of patients.

Clofazimine has no cross-resistance with existing anti-tuberculosis drugs and has a good effect against drug-resistant tuberculosis. The combination of clofazimine and anti-tuberculosis drugs in the treatment of tuberculosis patients can improve the anti-tuberculosis effect, and the clinical effect is better than that of anti-tuberculosis drugs alone.

A large number of scholars have found that clofazimine's excellent anti-multi-drug-resistant tuberculosis effect is more obvious in vitro. When used in combination with other conventional anti-binding drugs, the clinical effect on multi-drug-resistant tuberculosis is more ideal. After 12 months of treatment, the patient's sputum negative conversion rate can reach 85%.

Mechanisms of action in treating multidrug-resistant tuberculosis

Clofazimine is used to treat multidrug-resistant tuberculosis, and it has a good interference effect on nucleic acid metabolism and energy metabolism. In addition to its activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Mycobacterium leprae, clofazimine has also shown excellent antibacterial activity against other mycobacteria, including fast-growing mycobacteria (such as Mycobacterium abscessus, Mycobacterium fortuitum, and Mycobacterium smegmatis) and slow-growing mycobacteria (such as Mycobacterium avium complex).

In addition, clofazimine can activate the activity of phospholipase A2, causing the accumulation of lysolecithin, thus inhibiting the growth of mycobacteria. It can also accelerate the production of hydrogen peroxide and enhance the bactericidal effect of macrophages.

As tuberculosis gradually expands around the world, although the types of anti-tuberculosis drugs are gradually increasing, drug-resistant strains of the disease are also gradually increasing.

The number of people suffering from multidrug-resistant tuberculosis continues to increase in my country, and non-standard treatment is also one of the main risk factors for the occurrence of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis. It is recommended that patients with drug-resistant tuberculosis should improve treatment compliance, shorten the anti-tuberculosis treatment time as much as possible, choose a reasonable treatment plan based on drug sensitivity tests under the guidance of a doctor, take medicine as directed by the doctor, and be cured in one go.
