Apremilast is a first-in-class oral, selective phosphodiesterase 4 (PDE4) inhibitor that was approved by US and European regulatory agencies in late 2014 and early 2015 for the treatment of active psoriatic arthritis (PsA) and moderate to severe plaque psoriasis (psoriasis), respectively. The drug is the first oral drug approved for the treatment of psoriasis in the past 20 years and the first oral drug approved for psoriatic arthritis in the past 15 years. In relevant clinical trials, Apremilast has been shown to achieve clinically significant and durable improvements in patients' condition, and will provide a valuable treatment option for a wide range of psoriasis patient groups, including those previously treated with biologics or conventional systemic drugs.

On May 6, 2020, Amgen announced that in the Phase 3 ADVANCE study of its oral therapy Apremilast in the treatment of patients with mild-to-moderate plaque psoriasis, it achieved a statistically significant improvement in the patient's skin condition in the Static Physician's Global Assessment (sPGA) at week 16 compared with the placebo group.

Apremilast side effects:

The most common side effects (≥5%) of Apremilast tablets for the treatment of psoriatic arthritis are diarrhea, nausea, and headache.

The most common side effects (≥5%) of tablets for psoriasis treatment are diarrhea, nausea, upper respiratory tract infection and headache, including tension headache.
