Do finasteride tablets treat prostatitis? Prostatitis is a chronic disease that needs to be treated with a combination of traditional Chinese and Western medicine. Prostatitis needs to be treated with a combination of traditional Chinese and Western medicine, and the medication should be based on your clinical symptoms. Finasteride is suitable for elderly patients with enlarged prostate, but not for prostatitis.
Finasteride is a 4-azasteroid compound that is a specific inhibitor of type II 5a-reductase, an intracellular enzyme that metabolizes testosterone to the more potent form of dihydrotestosterone. Benign prostatic hyperplasia, or prostatic hypertrophy, depends on the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone in the prostate. This medicine is very effective in reducing dihydrotestosterone in the blood and prostate.
In the Long-term Efficacy and Safety Study (PLESS) of this drug, 3016 patients with moderate to severe symptoms of BPH who took this drug for 4 years were evaluated for urinary tract management (surgical intervention) related to BPH, such as transurethral resection of the prostate and other prostatectomies, or acute urinary retention requiring insertion of a urinary catheter. In this double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled, multicenter study, treatment with the drug reduced the overall risk of urinary tract disposition by 51% and was associated with significant and sustained prostate volume reduction, as well as sustained increases in maximum urinary flow rate and symptomatic improvement.
In vitro bacterial and mammalian cell mutation tests and in vitro alkaline elution test results did not show mutagenic effects. In the in vitro CHO cell chromosome aberration study, finasteride slightly increased the CHO cell chromosome aberration rate at a concentration of 450 to 550 μmol. This concentration is equivalent to 4000 to 5000 times the peak plasma concentration after oral administration of 5 mg of this product. In the in vivo chromosomal aberration test, mice were given 250 mg/kg/day of finasteride (equivalent to 228 times the recommended human clinical daily dose of 5 mg based on AUC), and there was no increase in chromosomal aberrations.
